Last year, on 43 Folders, I wrote about the perils of being married to your laptop and how to divorce your Precious portable. Despite my own advice, I’m still addicted and unhappily married to my laptop. Why? Because I suck at breaking old habits. And I make excuses way too easily. Does this sound like you, too?

So, in an effort to really kick laptops out of my life, I’ve come up with a few more strategies. Let’s hope they work this time:

Make more friends and dates
It’s easy to be joined at the hip with your laptop when you don’t have anything else to do. So what’s the fix? Find something to do. Make dinner dates with your friends. Go to the movies. Get yogurt. Make a booty call. Run. Anything out of the house. The more of a social life you have, the less computer time you’ll have. And whatever you do, don’t take your laptop with you.

Get a low-tech hobby
I’m sure you have tons of hobbies: IMing, blogging, surfing the web, YouTubeing. But what about old-time hobbies — ones that don’t involve computers at all? The possibilities are many: stamp collecting, sailing, whitewater rafting, nude photography, mushroom farming. You might even try actual surfing.

Blog less
If you’ve cultivated a successful blog or simply blog a lot, you know it’s a full-time job. Even after two years, I’m still struggling to find the right balance between my blogging duties on LifeClever and my day job at Dubberly Design Office. I’m cutting down on blogging to do some soul searching, but also to spend less time on the computer.

Are you in a loveless marriage with your laptop? Go ahead, share your strategies for coping in the comments.
