I saw the latest James Bond, Quantum of Solace and while it was a little light on the hardcore Bond gadgets I tend to lust after there were a few interesting gadgets. From fuel cell powered hotels to high end imaging cameras on cell phones - the modern day James Bond isn’t too much different than just about anyone who is a “mobile professional” or as they’re called around in these parts “Digital Nomads”.

Think about it, you dash off at a moments notice, you have important secrets that are likely encrypted - you lead a double life, one in the physical form and likely another online. Live and die by your cell phone (not literally) and you’re always one step ahead of the other guys. Our gadgets and technology are becoming increasingly sophisticated, thumbprint scanners, “vault” style access to data centers - it’s right out of a spy novel or movie!

Perhaps I’ve taken things to far, but it’s one way to make the mundane business trip a little more exciting. Well, that and a lot of Martinis. I actually like secret gadgets and they’re actually pretty useful, hiding your data might be the best idea since an exploding brief case.

USB drives / Data storage
I don’t like traveling with USB drives that look like USB drives, they’re easy targets for theft and I’ve actually had a few taken from my checked in luggage - what to do? Disguise them:

For secret data storage at your home and/or office:

And perhaps my favorite, a USB drive in a battery. Make - Volume 16 - USBattery (Page 82).
