Sometimes, you just can’t completely divorce your laptop. I get it. You’re a digital nomad and absolutely positively need your laptop. So, let’s deal with one of the most annoying problems when traveling with a laptop. Let’s use the good old Q & A format:

Q. I’m a hip digital nomad in a hip hotel in a hip foreign hotel, but my budget room only has ethernet for internet. How do I go wireless?

A. Get a teeny tiny travel wireless router. Here are some options:

Airport Express

Still the most elegant tiny router is Apple’s Airport Express. The power supply and adapter are integrated into the router, which means fewer parts to worry about when jetsetting. Just plug it in, put in the ethernet cable, and voila! Instant wireless internet access.

Non-Apple travel routers are now hard to find, but you can find discontinued models on eBay and smaller online retailers. Keep your eye out for these less-elegant, but cheaper alternatives:

Linksys Wireless-G Travel Router

D-Link Wireless Pocket Router

Belkin Wireless-G Travel Router

And remember, if you’re overseas, don’t forget to bring a power outlet adapter for the appropriate country.

Bonus hack: If your phone supports Wi-Fi, use it with your travel router for high-speed surfing or for making VOIP calls without extra charges from your mobile provider.
